The Seattle World's Fair opened on April 21st, 1962. Seattle, a little-known sleepy city in the Northwest, was about to be placed on the world's stage. The world was eager with intrigue and mystery as to what the future might look like.

The Space Needle was built as the centerpiece to the fair. By no accident, it resembles a spaceship 520 feet in the sky. But before the fair opened on the 21st of April, a christening celebration took place on the 19th.

Beginning with a reception and gourmet dinner at the Olympic Hotel in Seattle, guests then walked to the Westlake Monorail Terminal for a monorail christening ceremony. They were then swept away on one of two monorail "Space Trains" to the fairgrounds.

A couple of world premiers at various pavilions and then up to "The Eye of the Needle" restaurant and the observation suites of the Space Needle for a christening and "Toast To The Fair's Success".

For this toast, each guest was given a champaign glass to keep as a token. Each glass was etched with "SPACE NEEDLE CHRISTENING APRIL 21, 1962". There is rumored to have only been 1,000 glasses produced with the christening message.

This pair of replica toasting glasses is in commemoration of that day. Enjoy!
